What is a copyright? "Copyright" literally means the right to copy. Copyright is an internationally accepted form of intellectual property law. The instant you "snap the shutter", "splash the canvas" or "pen hits paper" you are a copyright holder.
Photographs, artwork and images are typically classified as "Visual Arts" by the US Copyright Office. This classification of your photos and artwork will largely depend on the final format of your creation. For example if you have combined different media (e.g. sound and artwork) you will have to further investigate which category to file your copyright registration under.
