What is a copyright? "Copyright" literally means the right to copy. Copyright is an internationally accepted form of intellectual property law drafted to protect the rights to the original works of authors globally.
In order to acquire a copyright for your TV or Television script, the work must be typed, hand-written, recorded or otherwise embodied in some format so that it may be perceived (and copied) by the rest of the world. Once you have start your television script, you own the copyright, but without the proper type of evidence, that copyright will be difficult to defend.
According to the US Library of Congress, your script is categorized as "Performing Arts".

Why do I need to protect or register the copyright on my TV script? If you do not register your copyrights, problems can arise if you are required to provide credible evidence of when you first created your television script... This can happen if your script becomes involved in any copyright infringement actions. Whether you are the infringer, or infringee, you will need to provide credible evidence of your possession of the work at the earliest moment in history. Read more
