Grand Rights
The right to perform shows -known as the "grand right" - such as "Cats" or "Jesus Christ Superstar" on the legitimate stage must be obtained directly from the publishers of the music or the producers of the show.
In the case of "Jesus Christ Superstar - The Movie", the producer had to obtain synchronization rights to use the score in conjuntion with the visual work, as well as mechanical rights to produce manufacture and distribute the movie's soundtrack. Sounds like a pretty good deal for Andrew and Tim!
